My husband and I couldn't afford a home in the DC suburbs. We moved to the Chesapeake Bay and never looked back.
Briefly

Struggling to find affordable housing in the DC suburbs, a couple decided to move to Calvert County, Maryland. Despite initial worries about leaving friends and conveniences behind, they discovered a spacious 4,000-square-foot home ideal for their growing family. This house, close to Chesapeake Bay and in a good school district, came within budget and fulfilled their needs, leading them to appreciate their new life and community in this charming area.
We were charmed by the Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, and after visiting, we decided this would be our new home, leaving behind our concerns in DC.
Even with two incomes, finding a suitable home in the DC area was impossible; the houses we toured had severe repairs needed or were out of budget.
After moving to Calvert County, I realized that what I was leaving behind didn't matter as much, and our new home fulfilled our family's needs.
The 4,000-square-foot house was within our budget and had everything we needed, including a great school system and a sunny kitchen for family gatherings.
