Levita Almuete Ferrer, a 64-year-old former State Department budget analyst, confessed to embezzling over $650,000 from the agency over two years. Utilizing her position, she issued 63 checks to herself and a personal acquaintance, disguising these transactions using Quickbooks. By changing payee details to hide her actions, she attempted to obscure the theft. On Wednesday, Ferrer pleaded guilty to theft of government property and faces potential sentencing of up to 10 years in prison. In her plea agreement, she will repay the stolen amount and also face a forfeiture judgment.
Levita Almuete Ferrer, 64, of Maryland, admitted to abusing her signature authority over a State Department checking account between March 2022 and April 2024.
Ferrer pleaded guilty on Wednesday to theft of government property and is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 18. She could face a maximum of 10 years in prison.
