Walt Disney Co. is set to open its first theme park in the Middle East, Disneyland Abu Dhabi, on Yas Island, a major UAE tourist destination. This marks Disney's 13th park and first new location since the 2016 Shanghai Disney Resort. The park will be entirely funded by Miral Group, with construction expected to take five to six years post-design phase. Disney aims to capitalize on the growing tourism in the region and strengthen its presence in a key global airline hub.
The Middle East is a part of the world we feel we have huge opportunity in, and we've found both a location and a partner that are a great match for the ambition we have.
The project is incredibly ambitious, and the land we're building on will be large enough to showcase all of our franchises.
The new park will give the company a footprint in the largest global airline hub in the world, with more than 120 million passengers traveling annually through Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Disney's imagineers are in the process of designing the resort and its attractions, a process that typically takes about two years.
