Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced the launch of the AWS Secret-West Region, aimed at hosting classified federal government data. This new region will support workloads classified as 'secret' and offer improved performance, resiliency, and scalability for defense and national security clients. AWS officials, including Vice President Dave Levy, emphasized the region's potential to boost U.S. leadership in AI and innovation. It allows for multi-region architectures, facilitating data proximity to users, crucial for latency-sensitive tasks. The initiative marks AWS's ongoing commitment to public sector investments, following its introduction of GovCloud in 2011.
"The launch of the AWS Secret-West Region will strengthen U.S. AI leadership and accelerate the development of advanced capabilities and groundbreaking innovation," Levy said.
"The secret region is the latest major investment from AWS in public sector customers that largely began in 2011 when it launched AWS GovCloud (US-West), the first cloud infrastructure designed for government customers."
