Spencer Carbery shares short injury update on Aliaksei Protas after forward leaves game in third period
Briefly

Aliaksei Protas left the game against the Chicago Blackhawks with a lower-body injury after colliding with Wyatt Kaiser. During the postgame press conference, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery revealed that Protas would require evaluation the following day to determine the extent of the injury. Protas, who played 11:39 minutes and recorded two shots, was unable to participate in the celebration of Alex Ovechkin's milestone goal, but he joined the team for the postgame celebrations. This season, Protas has been a significant contributor to the team's offense with 66 points across 76 games played.
With 15:38 remaining in the third period, Protas gingerly made his way off the ice and to the Capitals' locker room. He needed help from John Carlson and Brandon Duhaime to get off the ice, not putting much weight on his left skate.
Protas skated 11:39 of ice time in the 5-3 win, recording two shots on goal. He was in the locker room when Alex Ovechkin scored career goal No. 894 to tie Wayne Gretzky for the NHL's all-time goals record, missing the bench-clearing celebration.
Head coach Spencer Carbery shared a short update on Protas during his postgame media availability, stating, 'Yeah, he's going to need an evaluation tomorrow, so I'll know more tomorrow.'
The big Belorussian has become an integral part of the Capitals this season, recording 66 points (30g, 36a) in 76 games.
