After the 2024-25 Capitals team jumped off the ice following their final practice before Opening Night, nearly forty of the club's alumni split up into two teams for a friendly game in celebration of the franchise's 50th anniversary season.
Craig Laughlin expressed his playful skepticism about coaching decisions. He stated, "I can't believe they're not going to [start] their best player but I still hope the team...can win, but as long as I get my points, I'm happy today."
Using Alex Ovechkin's stick, Laughlin scored twice, helping Team Labre turn around a 5-2 deficit into an 8-6 victory, showcasing the enduring skills of the alumni.
The game featured not only Capitals alumni but also military members from the Capitals Warriors Hockey Team and TikTok influencers, illustrating the community spirit.
