Ross Mahoney, assistant GM of the Capitals, expressed, 'Whenever you draft somebody, you hope they're going to make the NHL... but he's had an even bigger impact.'
Mahoney highlighted Protas's unique combination of height and puck skills, noting, 'Conventional wisdom is that taller players don't have the quick hands... That wasn't the case with Protas.'
