Alex Ovechkin is making progress in his recovery from a broken fibula but will not return to game action until after the NHL's holiday break on December 24.
Coach Spencer Carbery emphasized the importance of timing, stating, 'We won't see him before the break. The target will become sometime after the break.'
Ovechkin has been cleared for contact, allowing him to fully participate in practice. However, due to the schedule constraints, his return will be after the break.
If Ovechkin returns for the game in Toronto on December 28, he'll have 48 games remaining in the season to chase Wayne Gretzky's record.
