Yoshi And The Mysterious Book Looks Like A Proper Yoshi's Story Successor
"As part of Mario's 40th anniversary celebrations, Nintendo announced a new Yoshi game for Nintendo Switch 2 at the September 2025 Nintendo Direct. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book takes the eponymous dinosaur into a storybook for a new adventure. The colorful platformer is scheduled for a spring 2026 launch. The trailer begins with a giant sentient book named Mr. E (for "encyclopedia") crash-landing onto Yoshi's Island. One of the Yoshis jumps into the book to investigate the menagerie of mysterious creatures documented inside the book in an unknown language."
"Instantly, Yoshi befriends a flower creature, which rides its back. The 2D art style resembles a hand-drawn, illustrated children's book, and the characters move in a stylistically and deliberately choppy frame rate, similar to that of the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse films. The main objective of Yoshi and the Mysterious Book appears to be documenting information about all of these creatures and figuring out how they interact with the environment. For instance, the reveal trailer shows Yoshi causing several dandelions to latch onto a rock, which makes it fragile and easier for Yoshi to smash with a ground pound."
"Activities shown in the trailer include fishing, surfing, and some sort of darts game. The storybook motif for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book looks very similar to Yoshi's Story, which was released on Nintendo 64 in 1997. The last mainline Yoshi game was Yoshi's Crafted World, which came out in 2019 for Nintendo Switch."
