Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Isn't Retiring, Despite Rumors Otherwise
Briefly

Major layoffs occurred at Xbox, resulting in the cancellation of projects such as Rare's Everwild and a new MMO. Xbox head Phil Spencer remains in his role amid retirement rumors. Communications head Kari Perez confirmed that Spencer is not stepping down, while communications chief Frank Shaw called the rumors false. Spencer emphasized that cuts are essential for future success and a focused approach will prioritize opportunities. Approximately 9,000 jobs were cut company-wide, though games from last month's Showcase are reported to be safe for release.
"We must make choices now for continued success in future years and a key part of that strategy is the discipline to prioritize the strongest opportunities," said Spencer.
"Phil is not retiring anytime soon," said Xbox's head of communications Kari Perez in response to rumors about Spencer stepping down.
Approximately 9,000 employees lost their jobs across the entire company, including non-Xbox divisions, as part of the latest round of cuts.
The rumored Xbox layoffs arrived earlier today, and they were even deeper than expected, including the cancelation of Rare's Everwild.
