Former PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida shared insights on the origin of the PlayStation's name during interviews following his departure. Initially conceived as an attachment for the Super Nintendo, the project was abandoned by Nintendo. Ken Kutaragi, a pivotal figure in the development, named the system with the reasoning of its association with computers. Yoshida also recounted the tumultuous 1995 E3 reveal when the concept character Polygon Man was quickly scrapped after Kutaragi deemed it inadequate for showcasing the console’s capabilities.
