Founders of Unknown Worlds, the studio behind Subnautica 2, have filed a lawsuit against publisher Krafton after their firing amid a $250 million payout situation. The game's Early Access launch has been delayed to 2026 due to the ongoing conflict, jeopardizing the founders' ability to meet revenue targets for that payout. Krafton claims the founders were dismissed for failing to deliver a launch-ready version of the game, while they argue the game was prepared. Internal reviews allegedly indicate developmental issues with the game as well.
"Suing a multi-billion dollar company in a painful, public and possibly protracted way was certainly not on my bucket list. But this needs to be made right. Subnautica has been my life's work and I would never willingly abandon it or the amazing team that has poured their hearts into it."
"The details should eventually become (at least mostly) public - you all deserve the full story," franchise creative director Charlie Cleveland wrote on Reddit last night.
