Despite mixed results from recent live-service games, including the challenges faced by Concord and Fairgame$, Sony is dedicated to advancing within this segment. PlayStation head Hermen Hulst expressed optimism about their upcoming title, Marathon, after a varied alpha test. Recognizing the competitive landscape, Hulst emphasised a more rigorous validation process to prevent past mistakes. He believes that frequent testing and iterations are key to the success of live-service games, enhancing both pre-launch and ongoing game experience.
We have reviewed our processes in light of this to deeply understand how and why that title failed to meet expectations and to ensure we're not going to make the same mistakes again.
The response to the Marathon alpha test was mixed, and Hulst said the whole idea of offering early tests is to gain feedback that can then be used to improve the product.
