Side Quest's creators wanted to tell stories about why people love games
Briefly

Ashly Burch, John Howell Harris, and Katie McElhenney created Side Quest as a miniseries to expand on the Mythic Quest universe, specifically through the lens of the game's players. Following the impactful episode "A Dark Quiet Death," which showcased a shift in the storytelling approach, Side Quest purposefully continues that vein by introducing new characters and returning favorites. Unlike the original series that centered on the developers as god-like creators, Side Quest delivers stories about the real people engaging with the game, thus enriching its overarching narrative.

Halfway through its first season, Apple's Mythic Quest threw a wild curveball with 'A Dark Quiet Death' - an unexpectedly dramatic episode that chronicled the rise and fall of another video game development team.
