"... it's my last game. It just is."
"I know people are going to say, 'Come on, it won't be your last game,' but, you know, I'm 66 years old."
"I'm working as hard as I've ever worked in my life. And I just haven't got the life energy left to do this again."
"I am not announcing I'm retiring. I'll be found dead one morning with my head pressed against the keyboard."
Peter Molyneux plans to end his game development career after completing Masters of Albion, which he regards as a redemption title. Masters of Albion is built by his independent studio 22cans, founded in 2012 after departure from Lionhead Studios, and places players in charge of a medieval village. The project had three years of secret development prior to its August 2024 Gamescom reveal and currently lacks a release window. Molyneux is known for Black & White and the first three Fable games and for a history of ambitious pre-release promises. Age, intense work, and limited life energy factor into his decision to step back.
