Nintendo is taking extensive measures to ensure the successful launch of the Switch 2, aiming to avoid the stock shortages and scalper frenzy that plagued its original console. President Shuntaro Furukawa emphasized the company's commitment to learning from past experiences by ramping up production to meet launch demand. The launch has been reportedly delayed to 2025 to build supply and finalize the game lineup that features key titles like a new Mario Kart. Nintendo is also encouraged to explore direct selling strategies to combat online scalping.
There's a lot we still don't know about the Switch 2, but one sure bet is that it will sell like bonkers when it first launches.
We will take all possible measures based on the experience we have accumulated to date (regarding scalpers and the like). We are making preparations.
One way to avoid a scalper frenzy is by manufacturing enough Switch 2 consoles to meet all of the launch demand.
It would be great to see Nintendo follow suit, maybe even limiting early rounds of pre-orders to existing players with accounts made prior to 2025.
