During an appearance on the Grit podcast, Bobby Kotick discussed how Charlie Munger of Berkshire Hathaway once explored the possibility of acquiring Nintendo. Despite Munger's dislike for video games, he viewed the potential investment as a viable opportunity. Kotick recounted how Munger suggested that if Berkshire acquired Activision, they should also look into buying Nintendo, which was valued significantly lower than its cash reserves. Furthermore, during the process of Activision's buyback from Vivendi, Munger offered advice and potential funding, ultimately influencing Kotick's decision-making around the buyback.
He goes, 'You know, I was looking at a couple other companies in your sector. I think if we bought yours, we should buy that company Nintendo, too.'
He didn't like the business [of video games]. He thought it was a step removed from gambling. He's like, 'You know, you're preying off people's addictions.' And I was like, 'I'm not. I'm actually giving them joy.'
