Microsoft Hikes Prices for Xbox Consoles, Controllers, Games | Entrepreneur
Briefly

Microsoft announced significant price increases for Xbox consoles, games, and accessories, citing "market conditions" and rising development costs. The Xbox Series S sees a price hike to $379.99, while the Series X costs $599.99. New games will now be priced at $79.99, up from $70, and Xbox Wireless Controllers have also increased by around $10. Microsoft’s competitors, Nintendo and Sony, are following suit with price hikes. The changes reflect the challenges in the gaming industry, particularly after Sony and Nintendo implemented similar adjustments amid rising costs.
Starting this holiday season, new games will cost $79.99 instead of the $70 Microsoft set in 2023.
Microsoft stated on a support page that it made the pricing changes 'with careful consideration given market conditions and the rising cost of development.'
As of Thursday, Microsoft's cheapest Xbox console, the Xbox Series S, costs $379.99 in the U.S., an increase of $80 from its previous price of $299.99.
Meanwhile, a premium Xbox Series X with 2 TB of storage is now $729.99, up $130 or 21%.
