Dune: Awakening, a new survival MMO by Funcom, targets console gamers with its design philosophy focused on controller use. Producer Nils Ryborg explained that building the game primarily for consoles simplifies transitioning to PC, unlike traditional PC-first games which struggle with porting. While the PC version is set for early 2025, the console version's release is anticipated to follow later. This approach not only enhances gameplay for traditional console users but also fortifies the potential for compatibility with devices like the Steam Deck, broadening its accessibility across platforms.
So from the start, it's the easier way of making a game, going console-first. A lot of that transitions easily back on the PC, whereas if you make a pure PC game... it's really difficult to port over.
Having a game designed with a controller in mind from the start also opens up the possibility of the game being playable on Steam Deck or other PC handhelds.
