Despite review bombing, 'censored' shooter becomes a Steam top seller
Briefly

Ready or Not will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on July 15, with developers implementing updates to its animations for optimal performance. The transition from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5 will enhance the game's technology and support cross-play features. The updates aim for a more realistic portrayal of character movements, utilizing extensive mocap footage. While gore remains present, post-death animations will be limited to ensure a consistent tone throughout the gaming experience, as ongoing deterioration will no longer be depicted after a character's death.
We recorded 5 different special forces actors in our last big mocap shoot, the goal was to introduce a more organic and natural look while trying to get away from the standard everyone looks and moves the same in video games.
We completed the graph rework and we are now dedicated to polish and further improvements using latest cutting edge technology available.
The adjustments are at least partially motivated to modernize the tech powering the game. Initially, Ready or Not used Unreal Engine 4, which required custom approaches for its animation.
Once a body is dead it will stop showing animations of further deterioration. The amount of gore hasn't been toned down, per se, as the bodies will still reflect whatever violence rendered them dead.
