Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has become a standout title in 2025 due to its engaging mechanics and in-depth narrative. Initially envisioned as a steampunk game in a Victorian setting filled with supernatural foes, the project underwent a significant reboot encouraged by investors. This change was catalyzed by artistic influences, including a painting and a personal story by a team member. With the focus now on refining the game post-launch, there is potential for future content, but immediate attention is on addressing bugs and gameplay balance.
"This game was very different. The gameplay would have been similar, but the story was completely different. It was set in a steampunk Victorian England with zombies, aliens, and various things," narrative lead Jennifer Svedberg-Yen explained to The Gamer.
"It's probably not going to be for a while," Svedberg-Yen said, referring to new content production, as the team is focused on fine-tuning Expedition 33.
