Civilization VII, one month later: The community and developers chime in
Briefly

Civilization VII launched recently, receiving positive critical reviews but criticism from users due to missing features and an unpolished interface. Executive Producer Dennis Shirk discussed the game's evolution since launch, emphasizing the intentional decisions to break away from tradition. The game features unique elements like distinct ages and a mix of historical leaders that change gameplay dynamics. Despite the challenges, Firaxis has been proactive, issuing patches to address user feedback, while maintaining a vision of ongoing improvement and innovation in the franchise.
Our rule that we live by at Firaxis is the rule of thirds. We want to keep one-third of the classic Civilization elements that define the series, while introducing one-third of new ideas and experiences, and the final third should be a mix of fresh mechanics from other games that can push our franchise forward.
While we knew that some features would be welcomed or missed, we focused more on bringing a broader experience that players can enjoy over multiple sessions, accommodating different play styles.
