Celeste follow-up canceled as devs 'refocus' to smaller projects
Briefly

The developer Extremely OK Games announced the cancellation of Earthblade, the anticipated sequel to Celeste, originally revealed in 2019. Following a disagreement regarding IP rights with former art director Pedro Medeiros, the team reassessed their vision and progress, ultimately deciding that completing the project was not feasible. Although the disagreement was significant, it was not the sole reason for the cancellation. The pressures stemming from Celeste's success contributed to the project's challenging development, revealing a loss of direction amidst ongoing creative strain.
We made this decision in December and felt it best to wait until now to announce it.
Celeste's success applied pressure on us to deliver something bigger and better with Earthblade.
