In Borderlands 4, players can expect a major enhancement in skills per character, with Gearbox boasting more complexity and depth than the combined offerings of Borderlands 2 and 3. During the Borderlands Fan Fest, Randy Pitchford and Randy Varnell highlighted the new skill tree system that provides diverse playstyles, allowing characters to fulfill different roles in combat. This marks a substantial shift from Borderlands 3, where action skills were more rigidly tied to specific playstyles. The game, set to launch on September 12, promises a richer gameplay experience overall.
You'll find more skills per character than in Borderlands 3 and 2 added together, it's a lot of complexity and depth per character.

This feels like a Borderlands game through and through where enough has changed for me to feel like this is an improvement over Borderlands 3.
The skill trees are so varied that players could take the same character and action skill into a fight and still be able to fulfill different roles.
