Craig Mazin will create, write, executive-produce, and run an HBO series adaptation of Baldur's Gate 3 based on Dungeons & Dragons. The series will be set after the events of the game. The show will introduce new characters and track their growth to power while also following characters from the video game as they confront the fallout from the game's conclusion. Francesca Orsi, EVP and Head of HBO drama programming, praised Mazin's passion for the source material and his talent for building immersive worlds with rich, compelling characters. Mazin intends to reach out to members of the game's voice cast for possible participation, following The Last of Us casting precedent.
