The PlayStation State of Play revealed critical information about the upcoming Borderlands 4, set to release on September 12. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford confirmed the earlier launch date, indicating a shift unrelated to competing titles. The game's narrative shifts back to a more grounded tone reminiscent of the original Borderlands. Players will explore a new planet, Kairos, featuring diverse environments, a cast of new characters including two Vault Hunters, and innovative gameplay elements such as crossplay and split-screen co-op with personalized difficulty settings.
Pitchford claims Borderlands 4 is going to have a more 'grounded tone' that harkens back to the original game.
Borderlands 4 is set on Kairos, a new planet that was previously controlled and hidden by a mysterious alien being known as the Timekeeper.
The looter shooter will support crossplay at launch. It will also let you play two-player split screen co-op.
Kairos will feature four massive zones that players can explore freely with no loading screens.
