Qatar invests millions in new British venture capital fund backing quantum start-ups
"There is a very good set of investment opportunities here,"
"Kudos to the UK for having the second most quantum start-ups in the world - the country's not that big,"
Firgun Ventures closed a $70 million first investment round with the Qatar Investment Authority as the largest backer, alongside family offices and Ilyas Khan. The fund was co-founded by Kris Naudts and Zeynep Koruturk and will begin deploying capital immediately from London into early-stage quantum firms in the UK and internationally. Firgun aims to build a $250 million fund to address a capital availability gap in the UK quantum ecosystem. The UK hosts 64 of the world’s 513 dedicated quantum start-ups, concentrated around the Oxford-Cambridge-London triangle. The leadership combines academic, entrepreneurial and finance backgrounds.
