The MM House, designed by Benjamin Goñi Arquitectos, embraces its dramatic lakeside site in Nilque, Chile, by incorporating natural features into its architecture. Rather than clearing trees, the team built around them, allowing the landscape to shape the home's structure. Designed for a rainy climate, its slanted geometric forms facilitate drainage and reduce potential leaks. The house features two interlinked bar-shaped sections: an elevated upper bar for bedrooms and a lower bar for children's rooms, with a central communal area that provides fluid interaction and expansive views of the lake and volcanoes.
The MM House exemplifies a delicate negotiation with nature, illustrating how architecture can coexist with the environment without imposing on it.
By building around existing trees and utilizing the steep slope, the design team transforms challenges into opportunities, resulting in an elegant house.
