The Osprey House on Shelter Island is designed for a family that values nature and outdoor activities. Commissioned by Joe Quinn, a local builder, the home reflects a commitment to environmentally conscious design. Inspired by native osprey, the house features large communal spaces and a second-floor terrace resembling an osprey nest, providing stunning views of the surrounding marshland. Its vertical, gray siding, reminiscent of bird blinds, allows it to blend seamlessly into the landscape, minimize visual disruption, and enhance wildlife observation, showcasing a thoughtful integration of architecture and nature.
The Osprey House is designed to harmonize with its natural surroundings, inspired by local wildlife and offering expansive views of the marshland ecosystem from raised living spaces.
With its 'upside-down' house layout and vertical siding that mimics bird blinds, the home allows for privacy while promoting a connection with nature and the environment.
