Mastering the Art of Visionary Design: Skills You Need to Succeed
Briefly

In my 25+ years of experience, I've determined that the key capability separating good product designers from great designers is the ability to create extraordinary product visions. This ability focuses on an idealized user experience that looks beyond immediate technology to solve real user problems.
Most designers merely follow what the Product Manager tells them, thus limiting their ability to foresee future product developments and move into leadership roles. This lack of foresight stems from a routine dependency on PM directives, causing a disconnect with user needs.
Designers should embrace adversity and uncertainty as these challenges spark creativity and innovation. By reframing problems as opportunities, designers can craft powerful visions that truly resonate with user experiences, setting the stage for their growth in strategic roles.
To become visionary, designers must take ownership of user research and engage deeply with customers to uncover not just big blockers but also minor issues. This proactive engagement informs their design process and fosters a culture of problem-solving that transcends departmental boundaries.
