Google redesigns Gemini AI to break down the 'giant wall of text'

"Instead of users typing in questions or prompts and getting back detailed written answers-"the giant wall of text," as Gemini's UI/UX lead Jenny Blackburn puts it-Gemini will now respond with a wider variety of content, from rich visuals to interactive elements to magazine-like graphic layouts. Depending on the prompt or query, Gemini will organically respond with the most appropriate level of detail in the display format that makes the most contextual sense."

Announced at Google's annual developer conference, Google I/O, the redesign of Gemini is a major shakeup of the user interface of mass market AI. Gemini is being redesigned to move beyond a prompt-and-response chat log interface. The assistant will return varied content types, including rich visuals, interactive elements, and magazine-like graphic layouts, choosing the most contextually appropriate level of detail based on the user’s prompt. The experience aims to feel less like endless scrolling and more like the interface adapts around generated information. The redesign also targets limitations of the traditional chat format, including the need to re-ask questions to obtain useful, accurate information. The new app and desktop experience adds more intuitive controls and ways to include additional context in prompts, while keeping the interface simpler as the technology becomes more capable.
