In the world of design careers, a similar phenomenon can happen: people "fake fall" into becoming designers. They are attracted to the surface-level aesthetics of UI design or the generous paychecks that tech jobs often promise.
Much like that hypnic jerk, it's a jolt that feels exciting, but in the end, it lacks depth, and reality soon sets in. It's easy to see why people are drawn to UI and product design.
