The Justice Department requested unsealing grand jury transcripts related to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, but former prosecutors doubt this will provide new insights. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Krissoff dismissed the request as a distraction, arguing it does not fulfill the administration's promises of transparency. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche emphasized the importance of public transparency in the administration's actions. Epstein is deceased, while Maxwell is serving a lengthy prison sentence for her role in facilitating his crimes. Former prosecutors stated grand jury presentations are intentionally limited in scope.
"The president is trying to present himself as if he's doing something here and it really is nothing," Krissoff told The Associated Press in a weekend interview.
Naftalis said Southern District prosecutors present just enough to a grand jury to get an indictment but "it's not going to be everything the FBI and investigators have figured out about Maxwell and Epstein."
