The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) is a vital trade agreement enabling duty-free access to the US market for numerous sub-Saharan African products. Established in 2000 and last renewed in 2015 to run until September 2025, AGOA has facilitated significant job creation in Africa, particularly in sectors like textiles. However, recent US tariffs under the Trump administration pose challenges, raising concern for future trade relations. Experts fear the consequences of potential AGOA expiration, as highlighted by industry leaders who emphasize its importance for employment and economic stability in countries like Ghana.
