""He's a top-tier candidate right now," Stephen Moore, a senior economic adviser to Trump in his first term, said."

"By mid-December, "the president will meet the final three candidates and hopefully —""
President Donald Trump expressed interest in appointing Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as Federal Reserve chair while acknowledging Bessent does not want the position and prefers staying at Treasury. Trump has criticized current Fed Chair Jerome Powell for not cutting interest rates quickly enough and seeks a replacement likely to push rapid rate cuts and broad operational changes at the Fed. Bessent has published extensive criticisms of Fed actions after the 2008-2009 recession and during the pandemic. Bessent is leading the administration's search and has named five candidates, including Governors Christopher Waller and Michelle Bowman, Kevin Hassett, Kevin Warsh, and Rick Rieder. The president plans to meet the final three candidates by mid-December.
