President Donald Trump announced a permanent pause on migration from countries he termed 'Third World Countries' to allow the U.S. system to recover. He said he would terminate millions of admissions he described as 'Biden illegal admissions' and remove individuals who are not net assets to the United States. The administration ordered a full-scale reexamination of Green Cards for immigrants from 19 countries after a shooting near the White House. An Afghan national who entered in 2021 was arrested in connection with the shooting that wounded two National Guard members and later killed one. Processing of immigration applications from Afghanistan was halted. The 19 countries were named in a June proclamation citing deficient screening and vetting protocols.
