President Donald Trump named Kevin Hassett and Kevin Warsh as his top choices to lead the US Federal Reserve and indicated Warsh has risen on the short list. Trump met with Warsh and has suggested he may not interview many other candidates. Trump said the next Fed chair should consult with him on interest rates, a stance that would alter traditional Fed independence. He said his role should include recommending policy and expects to decide within weeks. Trump called for aggressively lower rates near 1% and criticized the Fed for not cutting rates more under Jerome Powell.
