President Trump has petitioned the Supreme Court to revoke Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 350,000 Venezuelans, opposing a federal judge's decision extending their protections. TPS was established to protect individuals from countries experiencing crises. Judge Edward Chen warned that revoking TPS would harm both lives and the economy significantly. The Trump administration's actions face further scrutiny; a ruling from Texas deemed Trump's deployment of the 1798 Alien Enemies Act for deportations unlawful. Vice President JD Vance has stated the administration will appeal the judge's decision aggressively.
The proclamation makes no reference to and in no manner suggests that a threat exists of an organised, armed group of individuals entering the United States at the direction of Venezuela to conquer the country or assume control over a portion of the nation.
Lifting the protection would disrupt hundreds of thousands of lives and would cost the economy billions in lost economic activity.
The judge doesn't make that determination, whether the Alien Enemies Act can be deployed.
The Trump administration raised the issue with the Supreme Court...the president had been incorrectly using an 18th-century wartime law.
