Trump administration meets with UK far-right activist Tommy Robinson
"Honoured to have free speech warrior @TRobinsonNewEra at Department of State today. The world and the West is a better place when we fight for freedom of speech and no one has been on the front lines more than Tommy. Good to see you my friend!"
"I have now left the country, I need time to work things out for my safety and the safety of my family. I will probably have to relocate them."
"This is a man who has built his profile on division, racism and Islamophobia, and whose politics are roo"
Tommy Robinson, a far-right activist with convictions for assault, fraud, and contempt of court, was hosted by Joe Rittenhouse, a senior adviser at the U.S. State Department. Rittenhouse publicly praised Robinson as a free speech warrior on social media. Robinson recently left the UK after police warned him he was named in an Islamic State publication that encouraged violence against him. He previously thanked Elon Musk for funding his legal defense in a terror-related case from which he was acquitted. Scottish Green MSP Maggie Chapman expressed alarm at the Trump administration's reception of Robinson, characterizing him as someone who has built his profile on division, racism, and Islamophobia.
