Trans woman who wanted to end her lawsuit due to harassment forced to go through with SCOTUS appeal - LGBTQ Nation
"To put it simply, the Court has struggled with the correct outcome in this matter,"
"The State of Idaho has defended this case vigorously for years. It would be fundamentally unfair to abandon the issue now on the eve of a final resolution."
"I am afraid that if I continue my lawsuit, I will personally be subjected to harassment,"
Lindsay Hecox sued Idaho in April 2020 after being blocked from joining Boise State University's women's cross-country team under Idaho's 2020 ban on trans and intersex female athletes. A district court and an appeals court ruled in Hecox's favor and blocked the ban from taking effect. Governor Brad Little appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, which agreed to hear the case. Hecox later asked the Supreme Court to dismiss her victories and drop the case as moot, citing harassment, negative public scrutiny, and harms to her mental health, safety, and academics. A federal judge denied her request, citing the state's vigorous defense and the need for a final resolution.
