The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency will access personal data of 79 million Medicaid beneficiaries to locate undocumented immigrants. An agreement between the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) allows immigration agents to identify individuals. ICE will obtain names, addresses, dates of birth, ethnic and racial information, and Social Security numbers. Agents can access this data until September 9 but cannot download it. An initiative is underway to prevent illegal immigrants from receiving benefits, despite them being ineligible for Medicaid enrollment.
