Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump's special envoy to the Middle East, is under fire for his approach to conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. He recently expressed that he felt misled by Hamas regarding peace negotiations after attending an Arab Summit. Despite this criticism, he hinted at the possibility of Hamas remaining politically involved in Gaza if they demilitarize. Additionally, he conveyed a belief in Vladimir Putin's desire for peace during discussions with both Ukraine and Russia, which further ignited debate about his perspective and judgments in conflict resolution.
I was in Doha. I met with many of the Arab leaders at the Arab Summit. I thought we had a deal, an acceptable deal, said Witkoff.
Hamas wants to stay there till the end of time, and they want to rule Gaza, and that's unacceptable. What's acceptable to us is they need to demilitarize.
I feel that [Putin] wants peace. The president had two very productive calls this week... In both conversations, it was all about a lasting peace.
But I've never ever seen a situation where there isn't two sides to a story.
