Sen. Mitch McConnell discharged from hospital after experiencing 'flu-like symptoms'
"Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., was discharged from the hospital Tuesday after a weeklong stay and is "working from home," his spokesperson said in a statement Wednesday. "Senator McConnell was discharged from the hospital yesterday and is grateful for the outstanding care he received. He is feeling better and will be working from home this week on the advice of his doctors," said David Popp, a spokesman for McConnell."
"In recent years, the senator has faced mounting concerns about his health, after several incidents of freezing on camera. In 2023, he sustained a concussion after a fall, and in 2019 he fractured his shoulder at home. Last year, after falling in the Capitol complex multiple times, McConnell was seen in a wheelchair being pushed by members of hi staff. McConnell was first elected senator in 1984 and served as the Republican leader in the Senate from 2007 to 2025."
Sen. Mitch McConnell was discharged from the hospital after a weeklong stay and will be working from home this week on doctors' advice. He was hospitalized Feb. 2 after experiencing flu-like symptoms and is reported to be feeling better following care. McConnell is 83 and announced last year that he would not seek re-election, triggering a competitive primary. He has faced rising concerns about his health after on-camera freezing incidents, a 2023 concussion from a fall, and a 2019 fractured shoulder. McConnell served as Senate Republican leader for many years and has had a complicated relationship with former President Trump.
