A judge imposed a sentence of probation and community service on Ray Epps, an Arizona man who participated in the Capitol riot and became the target of a false conspiracy theory that he was a federal informant.
At a hearing on Tuesday, a federal judge in Washington said Epps, a onetime supporter of former President Donald Trump, had already paid dearly for his criminal conduct on Jan. 6, 2021, and the six-month prison sentence suggested by the Justice Department was unnecessary.
