"Still, on the generic congressional ballot, the Dems had a 47% to 43% edge on Republicans despite the public siding with the GOP on many individual issues. WSJ's poll was based on 1,500 registered voters nationwide. Those respondents were contacted between January 8-13. The Journal's poll was included in a story that ran on Friday titled It's Trump's Economy, and Voters are Unhappy With It."
A nationwide poll finds voters prefer Congressional Republicans to handle most major issues, with the GOP leading by 28 points on border security (48%–20%) and by 11 points on immigration. Republicans also edged Democrats on the economy and inflation (+6 each), tariffs (+2), foreign policy (+5) and the Russia-Ukraine war (+4). Democrats held advantages on vaccine policy (+9) and healthcare (+15). Despite those issue-level advantages for Republicans, Democrats led 47% to 43% on the generic congressional ballot. The poll surveyed 1,500 registered voters between January 8–13; related polling shows Trump's approval near 45% and 72% disapproval for Democratic lawmakers in a separate poll.
