Conor McGregor's ambition to run for president of Ireland faces significant obstacles, primarily the requirement of nominations from Oireachtas members or local authorities. He publicly opposes the EU Migration Pact, asserting he would represent citizen voices effectively if elected. His recent high-profile meetings in Washington, including with Donald Trump and Elon Musk, have drawn attention, especially against the backdrop of his legal troubles related to a civil assault verdict. Nevertheless, his presidential aspirations appear limited by the nomination criteria.
In a social media post this evening, Mr McGregor asked "who else will stand up to Government" and oppose the implementation of the EU Migration Pact, which would establish a common asylum system at a European level.
"Any other Presidential candidate they attempt to put forward will be of no resistance to them. I will!" McGregor said.
"This is the future of Ireland with me as President. All citizens of Ireland to have a voice and a choice on their future!" he said.
McGregor described Ireland as the "little bro" which should be "looked after" by the United States as he said he was in Washington to raise issues like an "illegal immigration crisis..."
