During a recent briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded to a question about Andy McCarthy's legal views on the Alien Enemies Act. While McCarthy expressed uncertainty about the law supporting President Biden's measures against cartels, Leavitt firmly disagreed, stating that the president’s actions are within his executive authority. She emphasized the threat posed by groups like Tren de Aragua, linked to the Maduro regime, and defended the designation of TDA as a terrorist organization, urging critics to consider the impact on victims' families.
We absolutely disagree with the legal opinion of the individual that you mentioned. We would not have moved forward with this if we didn't believe the president's action was within his executive authority.
A predatory incursion is absolutely what has happened with Tren de Aragua. They have been sent here by the hostile Maduro regime in Venezuela, and the president immediately upon taking office, designated TDA as a foreign terrorist organization.
Under this act, it is within the president's authority to deport these terrorists. And anybody trying to defend these terrorists should talk to the families of the individuals who these heinous monsters have killed and have raped.
