Iranian supreme leader not 'overly optimistic' about US talks
Briefly

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei expressed cautious optimism regarding US-Iran dialogues, urging high-ranking officials to approach the talks with neither excessive optimism nor pessimism. He emphasized the importance of maintaining clear red lines, acknowledging distrust towards the US but confidence in Iran’s own capabilities. Concurrently, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff outlined that the talks will center on the verification of uranium enrichment levels and weapon development, emphasizing the need for rigorous oversight after years of insufficient verification efforts.
We shouldn't be overly optimistic about this dialogue, nor overly pessimistic. The first steps have been taken well and executed properly. From here on, the process should be followed carefully.
But we are optimistic about our own capabilities. Of course, we don't fully trust them - we know who we're dealing with.
This is going to be much about verification on the enrichment program and then ultimately verification on weaponisation.
We're going to have to have very tight verification, there hasn't been much in the way of verification in the last several years prior to our administration.
