Here's what to know about the HHS demand that Mass. erase 'gender ideology' from sex ed materials
""This action reflects the Trump Administration's ongoing commitment to protecting children from attempts to indoctrinate them with delusional ideology,""
""Accountability is coming,""
""Federal funds will not be used to poison the minds of the next generation or advance dangerous ideological agendas. The Trump Administration will ensure that PREP reflects the intent of Congress, not the priorities of the left.""
The Department of Health and Human Services demanded removal of references to gender identity, gender expression, pronouns, and support for transgender and nonbinary students from federally funded PREP materials. Massachusetts was identified among 46 states and territories given 60 days to revise materials or face loss of federal funding. PREP is a program aimed at reducing teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections through education on contraception and abstinence. HHS described inclusive language as "problematic" and framed the action as protecting children from alleged ideological indoctrination, with officials warning that federal funds will be withheld for materials deemed outside PREP's statute.
