Even George W. Bush's Attorney General Thinks Trump's Attack On Biglaw Is Some 'Petty' Bullsh*t - Above the Law
Briefly

In a recent NPR podcast, former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales expressed strong criticism of Donald Trump's attacks on Biglaw firms. He suggested that such actions could be motivated by retribution, undermining the principles of democracy and the rule of law. Gonzales warned that Trump's approach could limit the availability of qualified legal representation for opposing viewpoints, which poses a significant danger in a republic. He emphasized the importance of maintaining checks on presidential power and ensuring decisions are made in the best interests of the country rather than personal gain.
I'm inclined to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I would have to admit it certainly appears to be retribution. I think it's first one, it's petty. Secondly, I think it's dangerous given the enormous power of the president of the United States.
[Trump's] trying to limit the number of great lawyers or good lawyers that can take positions represent clients in opposition to what he wants to accomplish or wants to do. And in a republic like ours, I think that's very, very dangerous.
One of the great things about the rule of law... is to check abuses of power. And we want to make sure that the most powerful office in the world... decisions made there are always going to be based on what is best for this country, not... political or personal gains.
